Another ACC/BHCC, Rare Coin Magazine exclusive.
The following pages detail the format of the upcoming U.S. Coin Value books, which will be compiled and published by ACC/BHCC and its members. Most of our members find current value guides to be inadequate in that they are published months in advance and values are given in only six or seven grades. To site two examples, we have recently found out that the Redbook has 1811 Half Cents in Good condition well under valued at $100. Several members have reported to us that this coin routinely sells on Internet auctions for $200 to $300 in Good condition. Conversely, the Redbook has several dozen MS 60 common date Bust Halves over valued at $525 each, and it is widely reported to us that such coins exchange at coin shows and at auctions for $300 to $325 each in properly graded MS 60 condition. This represent about a $200 difference in reported values.
The ACC/BHCC coin value books, as well as the prices detailed in this issue of RCM are based on feedback from hundreds of collectors, dealers and investors who are closely monitoring not just teletype transactions, but internet auction sites, floor bidding at auctions, transactions in shops and at coin shows as well as private party transactions reported by our members and confirmed with receipts. We appreciate any feedback that readers contribute pertaining to the value of coins.
